Man arrested following hours-long standoff with Gaston County officials
GASTONIA, N.C. (WBTV) - The Gaston County Sheriff’s Office, SWAT team and Gaston Police shut down a main road for hours on Sunday in High Shoals as they dealt with a standoff while attempting to serve an arrested warrant.
When officers arrived to serve a warrant to David Clayon Jans of High Shoals, NC, for an assault with a deadly weapon that occurred on Saturday, Jans entered his residence and refused to come out.
Out of a concern for the safety of citizens, the emergency response team was activated and Lincoln Street was closed at the south end of Frey Street and at Lincoln Terrace Apartments on the north end. The road is Business Highway-321.
The roads reopened around 4:15 p.m. and Jans was safely taken into custody. He is currently at the Gaston County Jail under a $25,000 bond.
