LOWELL, N.C. (WBTV) - The Lowell Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that took place at an intersection Thursday evening.

The shooting took place around 7 p.m. at the intersection of Redbud Drive and Wilkinson Boulevard.

According to the Gaston County Police Department, multiple law enforcement agencies were called to a multi-vehicle crash with injuries. There, they found one person, later identified as 52-year-old Jose Antonia Jimenez Quinones, with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Several people were taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center, officers said.

Officers say they found a juvenile suspect running away. They were taken into custody without incident and later arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

Nikki McCaskill, a manager of a nearby business, was in the area when the incident happened.

“I’m sitting at my desk, and we hear the breaks,” McCaskill said. “You hear the collision part of the wreck but shortly after that like literally once the guy gets to the door you hear the boom again.”

She said that after the man was shot, people came to help him.

“Then we see the other people come and trying to do CPR and of course they’re looking at him and stuff like that, but you can just tell that everyone’s reaction...yeah, he didn’t make it,” she said.

Anyone with information should call the Lowell Police Department at 704-824-8540 or the Gaston County Police at 704-866-3320.

Information can also be reported through Crimestoppers at 704-861-8000. Information leading to the arrest of involved parties can result in a reward up to $1,000.
